DIY-How to Make Your Own All Natural Energy Drink

Drinks that claim to give you an instant burst of energy seem too good to be true.

The energy drinks you find at the store may provide you with energy, but you’re also getting a hefty dose of caffeine, chemicals, and sugar.

You can avoid the dangers of conventional energy drinks by creating a natural energy drink instead!

Natural energy drinks are relatively inexpensive and easy to make, and provide you with even more benefits than just increased energy.

I’m going to show you how to create your own all natural energy drink—right at home.

Before we look at what natural ingredients you can use in your energy drinks, let’s first take a look at some of the scary ingredients in many energy drinks on the market today.

These ingredients include:

Caffeine – Not exactly scary by itself, but energy drinks can contain dangerous levels of caffeine–some have more than 500 milligrams of it! This is the equivalent of about five cups of coffee all in one serving.

Sugar – Refined sugar is one of the main ingredients in many energy drinks. The sugar content in these beverages can top 54 grams, which is about 14 teaspoons. This level of sugar combined with caffeine often creates adverse health effects for the drinker.

Guarana – You likely haven’t heard of this herb before, but it’s basically a cocoa product that contains caffeine–about twice as much as coffee. What this means is that manufacturers can get away with putting this on the label but not disclosing that it actually adds more caffeine to the drink.

Fabulous Natural Ingredients to Use

That last section may have alarmed you, but not to worry: we’re about to look at some safe, natural ingredients that you can use in your own homemade energy drink.

Many of these are not only extremely tasty, but easily available from your local grocery store and provide health benefits that caffeine and sugar can’t!

Pink Himalayan Sea Salt – If you haven’t seen this gorgeous pink salt before, it’s readily available at most stores and provides more benefits than traditional table salt.

Pink Himalayan sea salt is from the Himalayan mountain range that has been virtually unaffected by modern pollution. It provides 84 trace minerals to our bodies, including magnesium and calcium.

Pink Himalayan sea salt provides health benefits that regular table salt–which is traditionally stripped of nearly all of its minerals–simply can’t provide.

Raw Honey – Raw honey looks totally different from processed honey. The majority of the honey you find at the supermarket has been heated and robbed of many of its most potent nutrients and enzymes.

This also makes the honey appear clear and thin–raw honey is nothing like this!

Raw honey contains more benefits and nutrients than regular honey. These include antioxidants, glycogen for a natural source of energy, enzymes to aid in digestion, and is a natural source of hydrogen peroxide.

Like you need any more reasons to add this to your natural energy drink!

Coconut Water – Coconut water is an excellent source of electrolytes such as potassium, phosphorus, and sodium. It’s a fantastic addition to any natural energy drink, and can help your body rehydrate easily.

Coconut water is especially beneficial if you’re doing long or strenuous workouts because of the level of electrolytes it provides. For some serious sweating, coconut water is a good addition to your natural energy drink!

Fruit – Fruit such as lemons, limes, oranges, and strawberries provide an excellent dose of vitamin C to help heal your body after a workout.

Oranges and lemons are especially beneficial because they provide additional electrolytes to your drink (or you may choose to eat them instead)!

Ginger – Ginger has a variety of benefits that make it a welcome addition to your natural energy drink. It can help with muscle soreness and pain after a workout, increase circulation, and soothe your stomach.

Adding ginger to your natural energy drink gives you some spice and added health benefits! If you’re getting over a cold, ginger combined with licorice can be very beneficial.

Spirulina – Spirulina is a type of algae that’s become very popular and widely available because of its many benefits.

It contains antioxidants along with other vitamins and minerals that many people love to add to smoothies. Research shows that spirulina can help provide protein, increase immune system function, and even protect against cancer and infections.

A spirulina powder can be a great addition to your energy drink!

Turmeric – There’s no end to all the wonderful properties of turmeric. Turmeric root has been used for over 4,000 years to combat a variety of ailments.

Research on turmeric root shows that it can help fight cancer, boost cognitive function, and can even help with eye and heart health.

Turmeric can also help with joint pain due to its anti-inflammatory properties and history of helping those with arthritis.

Now that you know some of the best ingredients to use in your all natural energy drink, here are three recipes that are easy to make, tasty to drink, and will provide you with purely natural sources of energy for your day!

Recipe #1: The Morning Citrus Pick-Me-Up

image07

Whether you love to workout in the morning or you just really need a natural energy boost to start your day, this morning energy drink is your perfect solution.

It includes citrus fruits of your choice, raw honey, turmeric, and ginger. The ginger kick combined with turmeric provides extra anti-inflammatory power and raw honey provides a sweetness to the citrus fruits and ginger root.

Gather together:

  • 2 cups water
  • ⅛ teaspoon pink Himalayan sea salt
  • ¼ cup lime or lemon juice from organic fruits
  • ½ cup orange juice, fresh is best
  • 2 tablespoons raw honey

You can blend everything together or put in a Mason jar and shake vigorously. The honey will be the last thing to dissipate, as raw honey is pretty thick. Enjoy fresh!

Recipe #2: The Post-Lunch Strawberry Power Bomb

So it’s after lunch and you’re craving something sweet that’ll also provide you with an energy boost. Don’t reach for that cup of coffee! This energy drink will do the trick instead.

This amazing power drink includes strawberries, coconut water, and sea salt to complement your post-lunch workout or just serve as a tasty drink to begin your long afternoon.

Gather together:

  • 2 cups coconut water
  • 2 cups purified water
  • ⅛ teaspoon pink Himalayan sea salt
  • 1 cup blended strawberries. Fresh is best, frozen is second best
  • 2 tablespoons raw honey

You’ll want to blend this one in a blender to ensure the strawberries are well blended in with the coconut water, salt, and honey. Enjoy fresh and add ice if not using frozen strawberries!

Recipe #3:  The Green Rejuvenator for After Workouts

If you aren’t a morning or afternoon workout person, it’s likely you squeezed in your workout after work or even after dinner. Whatever works for you!

Gather together:
